This summer, Universal Studios Florida will be expanding their Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park. The popular tourist attraction is currently home to a replica of Hogsmede, a village which lays just outside of Hogwarts in the movies. Now, they are adding Diagon Alley to Universal, which will bring even more of Harry Potter’s adventures to life. The new area of the theme park is currently under development, but they have released a series of concept images to give us all an idea of what it will look like.
Guests will pass through London and the iconic brick wall archway from the films into Diagon Alley. There will be shops, dining experiences, and a new ride called Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, which is a multi-sensory, multi-dimensional journey. The thrill ride will place riders in the middle of an incredible adventure as they navigate their way through the perils of the Gringotts vaults.
Guests can grab wizarding essentials at Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment, one of the new shops located in Diagon Alley. Here, you can pick up items such as telescopes, binoculars, armillary spheres, compasses, magnifying glasses and hourglasses. Diagon Alley will also be home to Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, which will feature novelty items, magical jokes, and toys inspired by the books and films. I think i’m looking forward to this the most.
Ollivanders wand shop is also in development. Visitors will witness the magical experience of a wand choosing a wizard, and will be able to purchase their very own. Guests will also be able to board the Hogwarts Express and travel between the newly built Diagon Alley (held within Universal Studios) and Hogsmeade (which opened in June 2010 at Islands of Adventure) The journey will be filled with views of London and the British countryside – as well as a few surprises.
