Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange

Marvel has officially announced that Benedict Cumberbatch will play the role of Doctor Stephen Strange in a feature film about the Superhero.

The movie, which is scheduled for release on 4th November 2016, will be directed by Scott Derrickson, with a script currently being developed by Jon Spaihts.

Cumberbatch has been rumoured to play Strange for a while now, but he wasn’t the only actor in the running. Both Ethan Hawke and Oscar Isaac were strong contenders to play the neuroscientist turned sorcerer, along with Matthew MaConaughey, Jared Leto, and Jake Gyllenhaul having been rumoured also.

I’m excited about Marvel’s choice. Benedict is currently in huge demand as an actor, and has played some brilliant roles recently. His portrayal of Sherlock in the BBC series is exactly the style I’d love to see used to bring the kooky yet brilliant Strange to life.
