Geek Picks of the Week

Stranger Things T-Shirt | With just over 10 days to go until I can binge through Season 2 of Stranger Things, I’m currently in the process of mentally preparing myself for what I can only imagine will be some fucked up shit, that will no doubt blow my mind. I’m also physically preparing myself by eating ALL the eggos, and now I’ve found the perfect T-Shirt to wear whilst doing so. This Raglan is AMAZING. It features everything Stranger Things in tiny icon form. A bicycle, D20, X-Men Comic, and fairy lights are just a few of the things that stand out on this shirt. So cute. It’s like you’re getting a constant season 1 recap. I can’t wait to see what icons are used for the S2 shirt. Please make one. (Truffle Shuffle
100 Movie Scratch Poster | If I was going to be honest, I’d say I spend about 60% of my life sleeping and 30% watching movies or TV shows. The other 10% should probably go on work, but I mean – 10 is being pretty optimistic. With that in mind, you’d be excused for thinking I’m a bit of a movie connoisseur, but that’s far from reality because I never seem to get over 50 on those ‘top 100 movies of all time’ lists, which drives me crazy. It’s genuinely my life goal to get 100 on one of those damn things, and this movie scratch map is going to help me do it. It looks awesome, and there are incentives – sort of. You get a colourful poster at the end of it. (Firebox

Jane Eyre Bookmarks | Since it’s the 170 year anniversary of Jane Eyre today – if my math is correct, which it rarely is, but fingers crossed – I felt like one of my geeky picks had to be Charlotte Bronte related. Her book is one of my favourites, and always makes me feel like a literary goddess whenever I read it because it’s so damn old and yet I totally understand it – well, most of it. Anyway, these bookmarks, depicting little animated versions of Jane Eyre and Mr Rochester, are adorable and now I don’t think I could ever read the novel again without one of them to hold my place. It’s like having company while you read, but not, because they don’t distract you until you lose where you are so that you end up reading the same line over and over again and want to stab yourself in the eye. (Etsy

Totoro Slippers | I have never said this to anyone before, but I’m really not that fussed about My Neighbour Totoro – please don’t stab me in the eye. I know I joked about it earlier, but  I really like my eyes.  Ghibli is basically worshipped by all anime fans, but I’ve never really understood the whole anime thing. I guess I just haven’t seen enough to make a proper judgement – though I did watch this weird show called Space Dandy a couple of months ago, and if I needed my faith to be restored in anything, that would have done it because it was mental and colourful and, did I mention mental. But yeah, Totoro – I don’t get you, but you sure are cute, and I love slippers, and I also love the idea of putting my feet into your belly. (Firebox

Geek Picks of the Week

Star Lord T-Shirt | If you’ve seen the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie, you’ll have noticed that Star Lord is rocking a new Tshirt. It’s pretty hard to miss – containing Chris Pratt’s rippling muscles and all. At first I thought it said something like Yeah Baby, but apparently it reads Gears Shift, so if you have some of your own gears to shift, Redbubble have created a pretty accurate version of this already iconic tee. And if you want a long sleeved version, you can find it here.

Anne of Green Gables Print | Have you watched Netflix’s new series Anne with an ‘E’ yet? If you have, chances are you fell for Anne Shirley just as I did. She’s enchanting, and manages to see the beauty in just about everything. That’s why I love this print created by Letter Wright. It’s stunning, full of life and colour, resonating Anne’s personality to a tee. The quote is one of my favourites too – ‘Dear old world, she murmured, you are very lovely, and I am glad to be alive in you’.

Woody Door Stop | I knew I had to share this door stop as soon as I saw it on Instagram – it’s looks like so much fun. Toy Story is a timeless movie – one that I don’t seem to think about a lot these days – but it will always hold a special place in my heart as the first film I saw at the cinema. Getting his hat stuck under the door is such a Woody thing to do. You can find more info about the stop here.

Steven Universe Jewelry Set | Steven Universe is a fandom I’ve only gotten into recently, but even though I’m a mere 10 episodes in, I already know it’s going to be a favourite of mine. These acrylic miniatures created by We’re all Mad Here are amazing – depicting Rose Quartz’s sword and Lion, they’re just what I need to start an unhealthy obsession. So much pink!

Geek Picks of the Week

Colour Me Good: Benedict Cumberbatch – Colouring books are all the rage at the moment. I feel the need to jump on this bandwagon, nerdy style, and what better way than with one dedicated to the king of fandom himself.

Spectrespecs Necklace – Luna has always been a favourite character of mine, and not just in terms of Harry Potter. I occasionally feel the need to channel her uniqueness, and I think this necklace will do the job nicely.
Scrabble Lights – I think these are absolutely glorious, and I genuinely believe you can never have enough lighting in one room, so they are a personal must have. My only problem will be deciding what word to display.

Toy Soldier Bookends – As a life long fan of Toy Story, and an owner of a bazillion and one books, this will be perfect for keeping my pesky comics straight, whilst reminding me to take good care of all of my toys.

Carousel Pony Bag – I’m a self proclaimed tom boy, and with that title comes a severe lack of anything pink and girly.. But from time to time, I must admit I can go weak at the knees for bows and glitter. This bag is one of those times – it reminds me so much of Mary Poppins, I need it in my life.

Geek Picks of the Week

Check out the Nerdy Ninja Platypus wish list for this week. There are so many awesome new geeky products released daily, I’d never be able to list everything, so I’ve picked my absolute favourites to show you. Will you be adding any of these on your wish list?

5. Baymax LED light

I watched Big Hero 6 last week, and can honestly say that I haven’t laughed that much in a long time. It was all down to Baymax and his adorable attitude. His goal in life is to make you both physically AND mentally happy; I’m pretty sure everyone could do with someone like that in their lives from time to time. Well seen as the chances of getting a real Baymax look pretty slim, I’ve decided I’ll settle for this awesome Baymax lamp. It’s cute and useful and it protects you from scary monsters that come out of your wardrobe at night. You can pick one up from Amazon.

4. Lumberjanes (Volume 1)

Boom! Studios published the first volume of Lumberjanes last week, so it had to be added to my nerdy wish list. I’m yet to read any of the comics, but have heard so many good things about the series. It combines kick ass ladies, with supernatural monsters. Portrayed as a Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Gravity Falls hybrid, I just know I’m going to love it. Barnes and Noble has it in store for $13.44

3. Zelda Beanie

Summer is well and truly on its way, yet I’ve found myself looking at beanie hats online. I adore hats. I don’t really have a hair complex or anything, I just love my head being all snug, and I love how they look on me. I’d wear beanies in the blazing sun if I didn’t get strange looks and a sweaty forehead. I found the perfect addition to my hat family; this Zelda Beanie from Geek La Chic. It’s £19.99, and is modelled on the pointed hat Link wears in the Legend of Zelda series. It’s Everyday Cosplay at its finest.

2. Bee and puppycat (Volume 1)

A friend of mine introduced me to the Bee and Puppycat web series a while back, and I was gutted when I discovered that there were only about four episodes available to watch. It had a crazy Adventure Time vibe, but it was a little more relatable (well, as relatable as a story about a magical ‘puppycat’ can get). Rather than being about a little boy off having adventures, it was about a woman trying to pay her bills. I say woman lightly though, because Bee is far from lady like. Anyway, I can’t wait to read my way through the graphic novel, which is only £7. 58 from Forbidden Planet.

1. Pink Beaker Necklace

Jewellery is a weakness of mine. I like clothes, but I tend to wear the same stuff all the time, accessories however – I stock up on those bad boys so I can mix things up a bit. The best thing about jewellery is that it’s the perfect way to show your true self in a subtle way, especially with necklaces. I definitely have a little too many, yet I can’t stop buying them, and I want to add this Beaker to my collection. It’s £17.63 from Luulla.

5. Tetris Cushions

I hold a special place in my heart for Tetris. It was one of the first games I played as a kid, so there is a nostalgic factor; it also appeals to my OCD side, and is such a satisfying game. It has helped me a lot in life too, giving me mad packing skills when it comes to placing things in shopping trollies, car boots, or on bookshelves. For these reasons, I’m in love with these Tetris Cushions from Think Geek. They’re bloody expensive, at $99.99 a set, but there are five different shapes, and they’re all pretty big – perfect for building a fort.

4. Where’s the Zombie?

As a lifelong Where’s Wally fan, this zombie equivalent looks fricking awesome! Instead of hunting Wally and his stripy gang, you need to search for a family of zombies. Hours of entertainment right there! There are 48 pages worth of illustrations for you practice your apocalyptic zombie hunting skills on, and the hardcover is only £9.99 from Amazon.

3. Batman Silhouette Tights

Tights can be pretty boring. You have nude, barely nude, and black – well those are the tights I’m used to anyway. Thanks to Hot topic, I know I’ve been missing out, because they’re just released Batman Tights. Yeah, you heard me. I’m not talking batman’s logo covering your legs, I mean literal batman. His cowl, on your thighs. They’re sexy and geeky at the same time, and are only $11.60 from the HT website. I need these in my life.

2. Hawkeye vs Deadpool

I try to pick up a few Graphic Novels each month, and this week see’s the release of Gerry Duggan’s Hawkeye vs Deadpool. You can get the volume, which collects issues 0-4, in shiny paperback form from Amazon. It follows the two aforementioned heroes/antiheroes, who team up on Halloween to take down a load of bad guys; but these bad guys are dressed as good guys, so it all gets a little confusing. Plus, Deadpool and Hawkeye don’t really see eye to eye at the best of times. The comic looks like it’ll be a fun read.

1. Lil’ Gotham Harley Quinn Action Figure

I’ve had my eyes on the Lil Gotham toys for a while now, eagerly awaiting their release. Now they’re here, I’m having difficulty deciding which one to get. The collection includes Harley, Joker, Batman, and Robin, but at only £9.95 each from Star Action Figures, I guess I could get all four. They’re all absolutely adorable, but Harley Quinn has got to be my favourite. She comes with the tiniest little Joker doll, and her own baby Hyena – ALL the cute!

Geek Picks of the Week

Check out the Nerdy Ninja Platypus wish list for this week. There are so many awesome new nerdy products released daily, I’d never be able to show you everything; so here are my absolute favourites. Are any of these on your wish list?

5. Book Bag

Do you remember those glorious Book Bags we used to have in pre-school? A bag whose sole purpose was to carry the books you picked from the library (and a few stickers and fluff). Being a bibliophile, I find myself carrying at least 3 books around with me everywhere I go. How handy would a book bag be now right? Well Think Geek have taken ‘Book Bag’ literally and created what I can only describe as Heaven – a bag, shaped like a book, that you can use as a bag, to carry books. I need it in my life.

4. 8 bit Superhero Bedding

I seem to use the same two duvet covers over and over, to the point that going to bed is just boring. My mattress needs excitement. It needs colour. It needs superheroes.. This Pixelated Superhero bedding from Society6 seems to be exactly what I need. It’s fun, bright, nerdy, and oh so organised. It would definitely comply with my selective OCD.

3. Pokémon keyboard

I recently bought the most beautiful laptop in the world – a brand new Alienware. The LED lights make it extra lovely, but I can’t help but think that it’s seriously lacking in the Pokemon department. Don’t ask me why. Maybe it has something to do with finding these awesome Keyboard Decals for £10.44 on Etsy, and really really really wanting them. Each letter on the keyboard has an associated Pokemon to go with it; C for Charmander, P for Pikachu. It looks so much fun

2. Ice King Cap

I love hats. Beanies, berets, caps.. ALL THE HATS! This Adventure Time cap is like a hat within a hat. It looks like you’re wearing a crown, without actually wearing a crown. Not that there’s anything wrong with wearing a crown. You might just get some odd looks. Damn I want a crown now. Anyway, you can pick this Ice King cap up from Forbidden Planet for £14.99. There’s even a little picture of the king himself under the beak.

1. Dinosaur Jewellery Rack

I’m a huge fan of organisation, and I have loads of necklaces.. Literally hundreds, so I’d been thinking about getting some sort of jewellry rack for a while now. This particular one from Etsy is perfect. It’s covered in different dinosaurs, all the colours of the rainbow. It would be an amazing addition to my room. The rack is just under £30, which is quite steep, but it would be such a mission to make yourself that it’s so worth it.

5. Pixel Moss T-Shirt

IMG_1865
Who doesn’t love the IT Crowd? That was a rhetorical question, because EVERYONE loves the IT crowd. I’m continuously disappointed at the lack of merchandise available for that show, so was in complete awe when I saw this fantastic T-Shirt on the Geek La Chic website. Covered in little pixilated versions of Moss; everyone’s favourite nerd, this £24.99 pink tee is a must for fans of the series.

4. Deathly Cosmos Necklace

IMG_1866
I have a slight obsession with jewellery, and when I say slight, I mean I have about 50 different bracelets, and at least 30 necklaces that I wear regularly. I’m not sure where my need for shiny accessories originated, but it‘s products like this that keep it going. I’m absolutely mesmerised by how gorgeous this is – a stunning galaxy like gem in the centre of the Deathly Hallows symbol. That’s two of my nerdy obsessions rolled into one! And it’s only £8 from Empty Casket.

3. Sailor Moon Eyeliner

IMG_1871
One for the girls – Japanese Cosmetics Company, Creer Beaute, has created a make-up range called Miracle Romance, based on the anime Sailor Moon. The collection currently includes products such as mascara and lip gloss, as well as a perfume. They’ve now added eyeliner to the mix, and it looks adorable. There are two styles available; both accompanied by a lid based on the wand Sailor Moon carries around with her. At 1,728 yen each, which is about £9.50, they are a bargain.

2. Trigger Warning

IMG_1868
Neil Gaiman has just released a collection of short fiction stories in his latest hardback; Trigger Warning, and I need to get my hands on it. Featuring a fiftieth anniversary special based on Doctor Who, and a story from his American Gods series, it’s a must have for Gaiman fans. Being a huge fan myself, I’ve been anticipating Trigger Warning’s release for some time now and can’t wait to read it. You can pick it up for £16.99 from Forbidden Planet.

1. Crowley Pop! Vinyl

IMG_1867
One of my favourite characters in the Supernatural series – heck, in any television series, is the King of Hell himself; Crowley. He’s charming, sassy, easy on the eye, and British – what’s not to love. When Funko initially released their Pop! Vinyl collection of Supernatural characters, I was disappointed he wasn’t present. But have no fear, a cute chibli Crowley has been created, and he even comes with a whiskey glass in hand. You can get him for £8.79 from Amazon.. I need this guy on my shelf otherwise I dread to think what will happen!

“Breaking News – girl attempts to steal actor Mark Shepherd, who plays Crowley in TV series Supernatural, at Comic Con earlier this year”

Geek Picks of the Week

Being a nerdy blogger, and obsessive web browser, unfortunately comes with a price – an ever expanding geeky wish list of all of the new products I want to try out. I feature a lot of awesome, interesting, and expensive pieces on Nerdy Ninja Platypus, but these are usually things I can only ever afford to dream of purchasing. There is so much more out there that I want in my life, and on my shelves.. Here are a few affordable things that have made my list this week:

5. Fables Volume 2

2015/01/img_1768.jpg
With news that Bill Willingham’s Graphic Novel Fables is being adapted into a motion picture, I’ve been contemplating a binge through the series. I adore Telltale’s game adaption; The Wolf Among Us, and have a copy of Willingham’s first volume; Legends in Exile, but that is where my relationship with Fables currently ends. Forbidden Planet have the second volume; Animal Farm, in stock for only £7.58 – but with 22 volumes in total, I’m not sure how far I’ll get before I become bankrupt.

4. Batman Headphones

2015/01/img_1765.jpg
Headphones are one of the things I use every day, so as you can imagine, I get through quite a lot of them. That’s why I tend to go for the cheapest ones possible. The only problem is I don’t like boring – only bright colours and pop culture themes please. With that in mind, Sports Direct have a pair of Batman headphones for only £5 which look perfect. They appear to have a huge Batman sale on at the moment, so if you’re looking for some cheap Batman buys, check out their website.

3. Star Wars ATAT Plugs

2015/01/img_1766.png
Jewellery wise, I would probably pick wearing earrings over any other accessory. My ear lobes are stretched to 10mm, so there isn’t a day that passes when I’m not wearing plugs. I have my favourites, sure, but I like to mix and match, and I love colour coordination – the more unique the better. That’s why I’ve fallen in love with these 3D printed ATAT Walker tunnels, created by Ojingo Studio. Based on the Star Wars mechanical giants, these plugs are cute AND fierce. They are quite expensive, coming in at just under $30, but they’re totally one of a kind.

2. Twilight Sparkle bookends

2015/01/img_1767.jpg
Being an avid reader, and a huge hoarder, I have a whole wall of books and graphic novels at my disposal. A quarter of my room is made up of bookcases to the point where, I just can’t fit any more furniture in. I’m thinking about putting up some shelves for some of my favourite literature, but for that I’m going to need bookends – I think Twilight Sparkle will do the job nicely. These My Little Pony themed, wooden bookends from Hawkin’s Bazaar are only £5.99. They’re cute, colourful and sparkly – I just hope they’re heavy enough to keep my collection on the shelf.

1. Batman Meme Whiteboard

2015/01/img_1763.jpg
There is no way you haven’t seen the Batman slaps Robin meme before. I’ve seen so many different variations that I’ve lost count, and just when I think I’m getting sick of the sight of them, out busts another gem that I can’t stop giggling at. That’s why I think the Batman Meme Whiteboard is genius. For £13.72 from ArtByCholeena, you can get a framed re-writable meme to hang on your wall, then you can either write up your favourites or put your sarcasm to good use and come up with your own.
