Geek Picks of the Week

Stranger Things T-Shirt | With just over 10 days to go until I can binge through Season 2 of Stranger Things, I’m currently in the process of mentally preparing myself for what I can only imagine will be some fucked up shit, that will no doubt blow my mind. I’m also physically preparing myself by eating ALL the eggos, and now I’ve found the perfect T-Shirt to wear whilst doing so. This Raglan is AMAZING. It features everything Stranger Things in tiny icon form. A bicycle, D20, X-Men Comic, and fairy lights are just a few of the things that stand out on this shirt. So cute. It’s like you’re getting a constant season 1 recap. I can’t wait to see what icons are used for the S2 shirt. Please make one. (Truffle Shuffle
100 Movie Scratch Poster | If I was going to be honest, I’d say I spend about 60% of my life sleeping and 30% watching movies or TV shows. The other 10% should probably go on work, but I mean – 10 is being pretty optimistic. With that in mind, you’d be excused for thinking I’m a bit of a movie connoisseur, but that’s far from reality because I never seem to get over 50 on those ‘top 100 movies of all time’ lists, which drives me crazy. It’s genuinely my life goal to get 100 on one of those damn things, and this movie scratch map is going to help me do it. It looks awesome, and there are incentives – sort of. You get a colourful poster at the end of it. (Firebox

Jane Eyre Bookmarks | Since it’s the 170 year anniversary of Jane Eyre today – if my math is correct, which it rarely is, but fingers crossed – I felt like one of my geeky picks had to be Charlotte Bronte related. Her book is one of my favourites, and always makes me feel like a literary goddess whenever I read it because it’s so damn old and yet I totally understand it – well, most of it. Anyway, these bookmarks, depicting little animated versions of Jane Eyre and Mr Rochester, are adorable and now I don’t think I could ever read the novel again without one of them to hold my place. It’s like having company while you read, but not, because they don’t distract you until you lose where you are so that you end up reading the same line over and over again and want to stab yourself in the eye. (Etsy

Totoro Slippers | I have never said this to anyone before, but I’m really not that fussed about My Neighbour Totoro – please don’t stab me in the eye. I know I joked about it earlier, but  I really like my eyes.  Ghibli is basically worshipped by all anime fans, but I’ve never really understood the whole anime thing. I guess I just haven’t seen enough to make a proper judgement – though I did watch this weird show called Space Dandy a couple of months ago, and if I needed my faith to be restored in anything, that would have done it because it was mental and colourful and, did I mention mental. But yeah, Totoro – I don’t get you, but you sure are cute, and I love slippers, and I also love the idea of putting my feet into your belly. (Firebox

Long Live the King | New Black Panther Trailer Is Here

‘I’ve seen men build weapons that I couldn’t even imagine. I’ve seen aliens drop from the sky. But I’ve never seen anything like this. How much more are you hiding’ – Evert Ross

Marvel have just released the latest trailer for their upcoming Black Panther movie, and it is obviously blowing everyone’s minds. It’s only been a few days since they dropped the New Mutants trailer – which astonished many a fan with how unlike Marvel it is – and it seems Black Panther is following suit. This is going to be a different type of superhero movie, that is for certain.

The trailer features tonnes of new clips from the upcoming film. We get a good look at the Wakandan space ships we merely glimpsed in the first trailer, as well as Wakanda itself, the high tech science facility, and the insane new Black Panther Suit. But it looks like T’Challa – played by Chadwick Boseman – isn’t the only person with a suit. Antagonist Erik Killomonger – played by the disgustingly handsome Michael B. Jordan – has a pair of claws of his own.

Now I’m not picking side’s or anything, but Killomoger is really rocking that Panther look.

The movie is set to premiere on 9th February 2018. Watch the trailer below.

Aladdin Pop! Vinyls

With the announcement that a live action Aladdin movie will be hitting screens in 2019, it was only a matter of time before Funko announced that the next Disney movie to get the Pop! Vinyl treatment was going to be its animated predecessor.

The collection – which is long overdue – includes Aladdin, his partner in crime Abu, Princess Jasmine in her slave outfit, Rajah the tiger, and Jafar in genie form. There’s also a jafar variant which is glow in the dark.

These aren’t the first Aladdin Pop Vinyls to grace Funko’s shelves. Princess Jasmine, along with the genie, and jafar in human form, have already been released prior to this new collection. You can also get a hipster version of Jasmine.

I’m personally loving Rajah, and I think the Jafar genie would make a great addition to my Funko collection – he looks really detailed. Am a little disappointed with Abu however. He’s just not cute enough.

What do you think of Funko’s latest Pop Vinyl’s? You can purchase them all here.

First New Mutants Teaser Has Been Released And It’s Super Creepy

Marvel have just dropped a 2 minute teaser trailer for their latest X-Men venture – The New Mutants, and it’s not what you’d expect. This spin-off will be the eleventh film in the X-Men series, but focuses on a younger team of mutants and looks much darker than any of its predecessors.

The clip has a definite horror vibe going on, from its spooky location in a controlled facility, to the creepy rendition of Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick in the Wall’ playing in the background. It also features nameless gravestones, featureless masks and faces bursting out of sheet like walls – the perfect formula to get your heart racing.

Up to this point, very little has been revealed about what The New Mutants has in store for us, so the trailer gives us our first proper glimpse at the films storyline; A group of mutant teenagers, imprisoned in a hospital, trying to escape.

We also get a good look at the main characters; Dr Cecelia Reyes played by Alice Braga, the teleporting Magik played by Anya Taylor-Joy, a shapeshifting wolf called Wolfsbane played by  Maisie Williams, and flying Cannonball played by Charlie Heaton. They will be joined by Henry Zaga as Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as the illusion-wielding Mirage.

The movie, directed by Josh Boone, will be released on 13th April 2018.

Stunning New Images From Black Panther Released

MOTHERLAND_EW_Spread.40.fin.JPG

Prepare to be disgusted by your lumpy body and plain face because Entertainment Weekly has just released images of the exceptionally attractive cast behind Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther movie, due out in cinemas at the beginning of next year – 16th February.

The photo’s include shots of all the main cast, including some nice close ups of Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Forrest Whitaker as Zuri, and Michael B Jordan as Erik Kilmonger – who has some rather strange markings all over his body.

Can we just take a moment to gush over the Dora Milaje though. Beautiful strong women in stunning costumes – that scarlet beaded armour is just WOW – and I’m sat here in a onesie thinking about cake. Definitely not sure I’d qualify. I can’t wait to see more of these kick ass ladies.

What if a fascist, autocratic President took over the United States? And what if that President lost California, the sixth largest economy on Earth, by nearly 2-to-1…a margin of almost 3 1/2 million votes? What if the day after that President took power, the largest mass demonstration in history occurred, and the state with the largest turnout was California. And then, the following week, two of the largest international airports in the world, California’s LAX and SFO, were blockaded by protesters? What if California refused to be ruled?

Potentially the most relevant comic out there at the moment, Calexit is written by one of Black Mask Studios creators, Matt Pizzolo, who is no stranger to politically charged comic book series. Calexit is by no means factually based, but it provides an insight into what a very real America could look like if people were to band together. I think this will be a very fascinating read, especially for those who actually live in California.

Skin & Earth is a story of a girl looking for hope in a hopeless world. Caught between romance and cults, gods and mortals, and just trying to find a good borscht, Enaia Jin is lead down a dark path by new lovers that reveal a twisted fantasy world and her own true nature. Set in a post-apocalyptic future where corporations rule, this adventurous tale of loneliness, deceit and self-discovery begins here! Written and drawn by alt-pop phenomenon Lights, Skin & Earth ties directly into her next full length album, released in Fall 2017 on Warner Bros Records.

Electro-pop artist, Lights, who has a new LP due out later in the year, has decided to branch into the comic universe and paired her latest musical venture with it’s very own comic book. Having never heard of Lights, I’m more intrigued by the artwork that goes along with Skin & Earth. The simple yet beautiful images are drawn by Lights herself and depict a story about an alter ego that inspired her latest album – something i’m now quite looking forward to listening to.

Supernatural Spin-off is on its Way

Having watched the Winchester Brothers kick ass for 13 years, I’d like to think I’m mentally prepared for just about anything – demons, deaths, dancing, you know the drill.

However, news that a female led spin-off is coming soon has caught me completely off guard. Did I mention FEMALES! Move over Wayward Sons, the Wayward Sisters are taking over – Wayward Sister’s will be the name of the spin-off. Sorry. Should have mentioned that earlier.

CW have announced that Kim Rhodes, who plays Sheriff Jody Mills in the Supernatural series, will star in the spin-off. As of yet, no one else has been confirmed, but based off the fact that the show will be about a group of young women, orphaned by supernatural tragedy, it’s hard not to speculate that Clare Novak and Alex Jones – played by Kathryn Newton and Katherine Ramdeen respectively – will be involved somehow, especially seen as both are currently under Jody’s care in the original arc.

The spin-off will be written by Supernatural regulars; Andrew Dabb, and Robert Berens, who have said that the series will introduce new characters as well as old. An episode in Supernatural’s 13th season will act as the pilot for Wayward Sisters.

Parks and Recreation Pop! Vinyls

It’s been 2 whole years since NBC’s Parks and Recreation ended. Just thinking about it makes me feel quite sad. I can say with certainty that no other show has made me want to live in their world so much, because let’s face it – who doesn’t want Leslie Knope as a mentor, Ron Swanson as a boss, and  Andy and April as their best friends.

Fortunately, Funko are turning the dysfunctional yet awesome Parks and Recs crew into adorable Pop! Vinyls, so if you prefer fictional friends to the real deal – no judgement here, I’m the same – then  you can grab the team this summer. Go on, treat yo self!

The collection includes Ron, Leslie, Andy and April, along with Pawnee treasure Li’l Sebastion, and Andy’s alter-ego, Bert Macklin – which is a Hot Topic Exclusive. Unfortunately there’s no Tom, Donna, Jerry, Ben or Ann just yet, but fingers crossed for a full reunion soon.

You can pre-order them all here.

Image of the Day | Life Finds a Way

There’s exactly one year to go until we get to watch the Jurassic World sequel in cinema’s, and thanks to a poster that appeared online yesterday, we now know what it will be called – Fallen Kingdom.

There is currently no news on what the movie will actually be about, and since they haven’t wrapped up filming yet, we can’t expect a trailer for a good few months, but Jeff Goldblum is back as Dr Ian Malcolm, after skipping the past two Jurassic park films, and this poster is making sure everyone knows about it by featuring his most iconic quote “Life finds a way” – except they missed out the ‘uh’, but I will forgive that for now.
