Long Live the King | New Black Panther Trailer Is Here

‘I’ve seen men build weapons that I couldn’t even imagine. I’ve seen aliens drop from the sky. But I’ve never seen anything like this. How much more are you hiding’ – Evert Ross

Marvel have just released the latest trailer for their upcoming Black Panther movie, and it is obviously blowing everyone’s minds. It’s only been a few days since they dropped the New Mutants trailer – which astonished many a fan with how unlike Marvel it is – and it seems Black Panther is following suit. This is going to be a different type of superhero movie, that is for certain.

The trailer features tonnes of new clips from the upcoming film. We get a good look at the Wakandan space ships we merely glimpsed in the first trailer, as well as Wakanda itself, the high tech science facility, and the insane new Black Panther Suit. But it looks like T’Challa – played by Chadwick Boseman – isn’t the only person with a suit. Antagonist Erik Killomonger – played by the disgustingly handsome Michael B. Jordan – has a pair of claws of his own.

Now I’m not picking side’s or anything, but Killomoger is really rocking that Panther look.

The movie is set to premiere on 9th February 2018. Watch the trailer below.

First New Mutants Teaser Has Been Released And It’s Super Creepy

Marvel have just dropped a 2 minute teaser trailer for their latest X-Men venture – The New Mutants, and it’s not what you’d expect. This spin-off will be the eleventh film in the X-Men series, but focuses on a younger team of mutants and looks much darker than any of its predecessors.

The clip has a definite horror vibe going on, from its spooky location in a controlled facility, to the creepy rendition of Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick in the Wall’ playing in the background. It also features nameless gravestones, featureless masks and faces bursting out of sheet like walls – the perfect formula to get your heart racing.

Up to this point, very little has been revealed about what The New Mutants has in store for us, so the trailer gives us our first proper glimpse at the films storyline; A group of mutant teenagers, imprisoned in a hospital, trying to escape.

We also get a good look at the main characters; Dr Cecelia Reyes played by Alice Braga, the teleporting Magik played by Anya Taylor-Joy, a shapeshifting wolf called Wolfsbane played by  Maisie Williams, and flying Cannonball played by Charlie Heaton. They will be joined by Henry Zaga as Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as the illusion-wielding Mirage.

The movie, directed by Josh Boone, will be released on 13th April 2018.

Stunning New Images From Black Panther Released

MOTHERLAND_EW_Spread.40.fin.JPG

Prepare to be disgusted by your lumpy body and plain face because Entertainment Weekly has just released images of the exceptionally attractive cast behind Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther movie, due out in cinemas at the beginning of next year – 16th February.

The photo’s include shots of all the main cast, including some nice close ups of Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Forrest Whitaker as Zuri, and Michael B Jordan as Erik Kilmonger – who has some rather strange markings all over his body.

Can we just take a moment to gush over the Dora Milaje though. Beautiful strong women in stunning costumes – that scarlet beaded armour is just WOW – and I’m sat here in a onesie thinking about cake. Definitely not sure I’d qualify. I can’t wait to see more of these kick ass ladies.

What if a fascist, autocratic President took over the United States? And what if that President lost California, the sixth largest economy on Earth, by nearly 2-to-1…a margin of almost 3 1/2 million votes? What if the day after that President took power, the largest mass demonstration in history occurred, and the state with the largest turnout was California. And then, the following week, two of the largest international airports in the world, California’s LAX and SFO, were blockaded by protesters? What if California refused to be ruled?

Potentially the most relevant comic out there at the moment, Calexit is written by one of Black Mask Studios creators, Matt Pizzolo, who is no stranger to politically charged comic book series. Calexit is by no means factually based, but it provides an insight into what a very real America could look like if people were to band together. I think this will be a very fascinating read, especially for those who actually live in California.

Now that the Miles you know and love is with Peter in the Marvel Universe, you’re finally going to get that answer to who the OTHER Miles Morales is! And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Following the events of Secret Wars, Miles Morales now resides in the same universe as Peter Parker, and with a new Spider-Man movie tearing up the box office, and the prospect of an animated Spider-Man film showcasing alternate Spidey – Morales, the web slinger has never been more talked about, which makes it the perfect time to bring both of them together. Skin & Earth is a story of a girl looking for hope in a hopeless world. Caught between romance and cults, gods and mortals, and just trying to find a good borscht, Enaia Jin is lead down a dark path by new lovers that reveal a twisted fantasy world and her own true nature. Set in a post-apocalyptic future where corporations rule, this adventurous tale of loneliness, deceit and self-discovery begins here! Written and drawn by alt-pop phenomenon Lights, Skin & Earth ties directly into her next full length album, released in Fall 2017 on Warner Bros Records.

Electro-pop artist, Lights, who has a new LP due out later in the year, has decided to branch into the comic universe and paired her latest musical venture with it’s very own comic book. Having never heard of Lights, I’m more intrigued by the artwork that goes along with Skin & Earth. The simple yet beautiful images are drawn by Lights herself and depict a story about an alter ego that inspired her latest album – something i’m now quite looking forward to listening to.

What’s on your comic book pull list for 12th July? Will you be picking up any of the above issues? Which one are you looking forward to reading the most?

Guardians of the Gravity Falls

Since today is Summerween – according to Gravity Falls – and Guardians of the Galaxy is still fresh in everyone’s mind, I thought this rather epic mash-up of the two fandoms would be perfect for my Image of the Day.

Drawn by Ken Turner, Mable and Dipper lead the team as Mabora and Dip-Lord, but Grunkle Stan as Drax is the best!

10 Gifts Every Deadpool Fan Needs in their Life

With Deadpool filming confirmed to be well on it’s way – thanks to Ryan Reynolds who tweeted a picture of the mercenary sun bathing outside the X-mansion earlier in the week – everyone is understandably getting excited about the sequel. I thought I’d share a few of my Deadpool must haves for the fan who can’t get enough of the Merc with the mouth.

1. Deadpool Piggy Bank – I am the worst at saving, like seriously – the complete worst, so I have absolutely no need for any money box ever, but if you need to store your pennies somewhere, why not in Deadpool – I’m certain he’d appreciate the extra cash. He is a mercenary after all.

2.  Deadpool Colouring Book – Adult colouring books are all the rage at the moment and you can’t get more adult than Deadpool. I personally own way more than any child should probably have, let alone adult, but this is a Deadpool colouring book man, its a must.

3. Deadpool Dress – Deadpool is no stranger to cross dressing, so I could totally see him rocking this little red number. It’s not the most conventional outfit, but it looks stretchy enough for back flips and copious amounts of stabbing, if you feel so inclined.

4. Deadpool Comic Poster – There are a ridiculous amount of posters out there in the online abyss, but this one is hands down my favourite. I just love the contrast between the black & white comic book background, and a red Deadpool standing cross armed in front.

5. Deadpool Bookends – I can’t say I’ve ever owned bookends because I’m a serial bookcase owner, but if I were going to own bookends, these would be a serious contender. Made of wood, I love the simplicity, and boldness.

6. Deadpool Leggings – I don’t think these need an explanation as to why they’re awesome and everyone must own them, even the guys. I have never seen anyone in Deadpool leggings, and feel that needs to change.

7. Deadpool Flair – There are not enough Deadpool pins in the world, and if you are one of the many who is yet to own one, make this the first in your collection because Mondo are pro’s at creating eye catching flair for your lapels, and this is no exception.

8. Adventure Time Watch – I knew I wanted this Adventure Time watch ever since seeing it on Deadpool’s wrist in the first movie, and now it’s actually available to buy – Just make sure no one else see’s it on your wrist, or your identity is blown, and Collosus will be after you.

9. Deadpool Pen Holder – Brutality is Deadpool’s game, and I’m not sure there’s anything more brutal than a severed head used as a push cushion for pens. Perfect for the desk of someone who needs a little help showing people who is boss.

10. Deadpool Tee – One for the pop culture mash-up fans out there – a Finding Nemo / Deadpool tshirt. Cute AND deadly, wearing this you might actually find yourself a Dory to help you with your quest – though we all know Deadpool works alone.

Villains Need Love Too

If you’re struggling through Monday as much as I am, you might appreciate these illustrations by artist Nacho Diaz – they’ve certainly made my week a hell of a lot better. Depicting heroes hugging their evil counterpart / misunderstood frenemies – depending on which way your moral compass points, these pictures are beyond cute.

Diaz’s collection is aptly named Villains need love too, and include the likes of Batman and the Joker, Harry and Voldemort, Han Solo and Jabba, and my favourite – Deadpool and.. Deadpool. You can see my favourites below, but if you need more cute in your life, check the rest out here. Which one’s your favourite?

Five New Comics Hitting the Shelves This Week

Jimmy’s Bastards

Writer: Garth Ennis
Artist: Russell Braun
Publisher: After Shock Comics

Jimmy Regent, Britain’s number one super-spy, has got it all: intrigue, adventure, a license to shoot whoever he likes and beautiful women falling at his feet. He also has a new partner who isn’t quite as impressed by Jimmy as all other women appear to be. Now, there’s a price to pay for Jimmy’s multiple romantic conquests – the results of which are about to come calling in the worst possible way…

If you watched the first season of Preacher, you may be familiar with Garth Ennis, who wrote the graphic novel the show is based on. Well Ennis is back with a brand new comic, only this one is based on a spy rather than a priest. Picture James Bond – behind the scenes, as Jimmy’s Bastards revels how living the life of a spy can come with some worrying consequences.

Defenders

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis

Artist
: David Marquez

Publisher
: Marvel

Daredevil! Luke Cage! Jessica Jones! Iron Fist! Individually, these four heroes have been on the front lines of the battle to keep the streets of the city safe and secure! But now, with a deadly enemy from the dim past making a major move to unite the underworld, they will need to become more – they will need to become DEFENDERS!

With the Defenders TV series debuting in August, this comic has come in the neck of time for those wanting to learn a little bit more about the team. Based in the same gritty world and written by comic royalty, Brian Michael Bendis, – who is more than familiar with these characters – Defenders is a must read this week. Expect to see the likes of Black Cat and Kingpin making an appearance as well.

Briggs Land Lone Wolves

Writer: Brian Wood

Artist
: Mack Chater

Publisher
: Dark Horse

Isaac Briggs, fresh off a tour in Afghanistan and struggling to reintegrate, finds solace hiking the old forest trails. When two random backpackers wander onto the Land, an innocent situation quickly turns dangerous and Isaac’s military training takes a turn down a dark path. Welcome to Briggs Land, nearly a hundred square miles of rural wilderness, representing the largest anti-government secessionist movement in the United States.

Already in development for a TV series on AMC, Biggs Land is an incredibly topical comic, focusing on issues such as religious extremism, domestic terror, and ultra-nationalism, and with a large cast of characters, it’s going to be hard not to find someone to relate to. If you’re looking to get familiar with the characters before they hit the little screen, it’s a must read.

Secret Empire: United

Writer: Jim Zub

Artist
: Ario Anindito

Publisher
: Marvel

Steve Rogers has finally brought peace to the planet, securing the borders of the land that he loves against any and all threats. And his peace will be maintained-by any means necessary. So when skirmishes break out on the outskirts of mutant-controlled territory, Hydra’s supreme leader takes matters into his own hands…

Marvel Comics have released another upcoming Secret Empire tie-in; a super-powered thriller where the Avengers, X-Men and Hydra battle it out to find their place in the new world. This is a Marvel I’m not used to, where everyone seems to be on edge. It will be interesting to see which mutants pop up, though we can expect to see Archangel, Magik and Sebastian Shaw.

Dark Days: The Forge

Writer: Scott Snyder, James Tynion

Artist
: Jim Lee, Andy Kubert, John Romita Jr.

Publisher
: DC Comics

Aquaman, The Flash and more of DC’s pantheon of heroes suspect Batman of hiding a dark secret that could threaten the very existence of the multiverse! It’s an epic that will span generations-but how does it connect to the origins of one of DC’s most legendary heroes?

The great comics event of summer 2017 is about to begin, courtesy of superstar writers Scott Snyder and James Tynion, along with a master class of artists. Dark days is probably worth reading on talent alone, but with the promise of huge revelations about the past, present and future of the cosmology of DC, this will definitely not be a comic you’ll want to miss out on.
